Ritual constitutes an important facet of many cultures throughout the world.  Frequently, ritual attends a child’s formal passage to adulthood.  The dependence of youthfulness is shed to make way for the responsibility of maturity.  Thus the toy piano, symbolizing childhood, becomes of means of serious expression, while simultaneously providing ritual music for its own rite of passage.
