eyefire was inspired by the string trio by Dan Highman, The Eye Like a Strange Balloon Mounts toward Infinity, and is thus dedicated to him.  It addresses the dichotomy of something moving and looking forward (the eye) toward something that neither moves nor looks forward (infinity). Thus, harmonic and rhythmic stasis in three of the instruments is overlaid by an ascending melody in the first violin. This piece was written specifically for the concert put on by the Salty Cricket Collective in the summer of 2008.
