| (dis)Integrations
deals with various methods of disintegrating and reintegrating various
strands or sources of musical fabric. It pays a debt to
Varese’s Integrales
(and perhaps others of his pieces), which it also briefly quotes, for
the angular, object-type sound world. As in some others of my
pieces, one movement (the first) is constructed from various
independent and interacting layers of horizontal material, while the
middle movement is constructed from discrete blocks of texture.
The final movement combines a block-style construction with more
improvisatory thematic content. The piece was performed by students of Indiana University. |
