Neil Thornock is currently an
Assistant Professor of Music Composition and Theory at Brigham
Young University. His primary musical interests lie in the intersection
of
composition and performance. Trained as organist and carilloneur,
many of his works have been motivated by an opportunity to perform.
His works have been heard at the North American Saxophone
Alliance Biennial Conference, SEAMUS, the Midwest Composers Symposium,
Imagine2, SCI, the Eccles Organ Festival, and Congresses of the
Guild of Carillonuers in North America. Current projects include a new work for the Upland Chamber Ensemble, a compendium of short organ pieces celebrating Messiaen's 100th, and a collaboration with Dutch video artist Jan Suschitzky. This coming year he will be recording the complete organ works of fellow composer and colleague Christian Asplund. He is also in the earliest stages of planning an opera with the literature and lingual scholar James Rasmussen on the subject of the antediluvian prophet Enoch. Thornock received degrees at Indiana University and Brigham Young University. During the 2006-2007 academic year he was Visiting Assistant Professor at Southern Virginia University. He was reared in rural Washington State. He and his wife Tammy have three children. Download a cv here. |
